the number 13 is a number of cosmic and mystical proportions ... it has street currency, magic, and is full of luck ... from street gang tattoos, to the missing floor of many buildings, to jesus and his twelve disciples ... thirteen is a resonant signifier in contemporary culture. ©happell has organized a series of life genre happenings involving tattooing and the three friday the thirteenths of this year (february, march and november).
©happell has distilled the number thirteen into a limited number of calligraphic strokes to form relevant pictograms, developing a visual vocabulary that is both appealing and caustically clever.
anyone 18 years of age or older who is curious and would like to participate in this event, is invited to come to [the shop] on february, friday the thirteenth, between the hours of noon and eight p.m., where ©happell will be giving the first (in a series of three tattoos) for $13 apiece.
